Chapter 13
STUDY:Verses to Remember:
12b, 14 ...let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Do you remember the verse in Ephesian 6 that explains the armor of God? Verse 10-17 reads: Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. We will be tempted all the time. Satan studies us to learn our weaknesses- he may even know them better than we do! Instead of battling him once he pursuits us viciously, be prepared. Instead of trying to pull out your sword when he is already attacking you, have your sword ready at your side. As verse 17 says, the sword of the Spirit is the word of God- the Bible. Be prepared with verses in God's word that can defend you against the lies the evil one will whisper in your ear. Do not be defeated by him or the desires of your flesh. Be on guard- be ready. Do whatever is necessary to avoid temptation. APPLICATION:
