The greek word for "tempted", used in verse 1 can also mean "test". Obviously God never tempts anyone to sin, however, he does test people's character by placing us in circumstances that would do so.
Jesus began his ministry in this chapter.
Jesus' ministry lasted about 3 years. It is said that the first year was a year of obscurity; the second, of popularity; and the third, of increasing rejection.
