DIG DEEPER:

  • Why were the disciples able to eat grain from the fields (Leviticus 19:9, 23:22)?
  • "I desire mercy, not sacrifice."  Looking at your study notes in your Bible, what does this mean?
  • How would a house be divided against itself?
  •  What do you make of verses 43-45?  What does it mean, "finds the house empty, swept"?

APPLICATION:

  • A tree is known by its fruit.  How does this relate to us?  What verse in this section can you use to answer this?
  • Are you careless with your words?  If so, what does this say about your heart?
  • What can you do to protect yourself against evil spirits "entering your house"?

INTERESTING NOTES:

  • The "Bread of Presence" were twelve loaves of bread that were baked and placed in the tabernacle on each Sabbath as an offering.  They represented God's covenant with the twelve tribes of Israel.  The bread was only to be eaten by priests.
