STUDY:

  • Who has been born of God?

  • How do you know that you love the children of God?

  • What does verse 3 say about His commandments?  What does this mean?

  • Who overcomes the world?

  • What 3 things is confirm believing in Jesus?  What do they represent?

  • Who has eternal life?  Who will be cast into hell?

  • God will hear and answer our prayer if what?  

  • What is sin that does not lead to death?

  • What is sin that does lead to death?

  • What has Jesus given us (verse 20).  Why has He given us this?

  • What does verse 21 mean?  What do you think is the significance of verse 21 being at the end of this book?

APPLICATION:

  • As followers of Jesus, through Him we have overcome the world.  What things in your life do you feel you haven't overcome?  Pray this Scripture to Him who promises us freedom from the world.  When we truly surrender ourselves to Him- and all that we struggle with- we will overcome it through Jesus.

  • What are you asking of God right now in your prayer life?  Has God answered you? Is your request outside of God's will (promises made in the Bible)?  If God answered, how did He answer?

  • The very last verse of this book commands us to keep ourselves from idols.  Are there any idols in your life that you need to rid yourself of?  Again, surrender these things to Jesus who can bring you back completely to Him.
